Advising a Group

Student Unions & Activities provides advising services for all registered student groups. Advising is available in the areas of:

  • Student group registration process
  • Student group and/or University processes and procedures
  • Event Planning
  • Financial Management
  • Sales and/or fundraising policies
  • SUA Grant applications
  • Student Services Fees requests
  • Insurance needs and risk management protocol
  • Tax information for student groups
  • Outdoor Space

We do our best to be available to answer walk-in questions. Schedule an appointment with an advisor to ensure an advisor is available. We encorage you to contact us at least one business day in advance of your ideal appointment time. If you’d like to schedule an appointment, please contact Student Activities at sao@umn.edu or (612) 626-6919. Appointments can be scheduled on regular business days, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. The Student Activities Office is located on the first floor of Coffman Union, Room 126.

Advisor Toolkit

The Student Group Advisor Toolkit was compiled to support advisors as the University transitions into the upcoming terms. The toolkit includes templates, information specific to Campus Life Programs, student group exercises and much more. The resources included in this toolkit are not exhaustive and will be updated throughout the academic year.

Student Group Communications

The Student Activities Office communicates regularly with student groups through an email newsletter called the Student Group Newsletter and direct messages. Our communications are automatically sent to all groups' officers, primary contacts and advisors as reflected on the groups' GopherLink profile.
