Requirements

  • Current U of MN - Twin Cities degree-seeking student. See student employment eligibility
  • Ability to work between 10-15 hours per week
  • 2 semester or equivalent working in a related Audio/Visual events venue or other documented Audio/Visual operations experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A flexible schedule with the ability to work more hours when needed, particularly during evenings and weekends.
  • General familiarity with audio systems and practices, theatrical lighting, and video production.
  • Ability to be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong detail orientation and ability to multitask

Essential Functions:

Student Audio-Visual Technicians are a part of the Event Services Office. They provide technical support for a wide range of events, concerts, films, and conferences. Responsibilities include the set-up and operation of A/V equipment such as data projection, audio amplification, and general theatrical lighting. Students are required to attend weekly staff meetings and should be available for evening and weekend shifts. Customer service is integral to this position. This advanced-level position demands a heightened degree of technical and professional responsibility and consists almost exclusively of independent and/or unsupervised work. This includes working events that are technically challenging including concerts, theatrical performances, and streaming-based events.

The Student Union & Activities AV Techs are based at either Coffman Memorial Union or at the St Paul Student Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 60% Unsupervised event operation and general customer service via: data projection, microphone set-ups, concert set-ups and theatrical lighting
  • 15% General equipment maintenance and service
  • 10% Training of student technicians
  • 10% Various daily departmental responsibilities
  • 5% Assisting customers in developing program needs
