Advising Philosophy¶
Our student advising philosophy within the Engagement areas prioritizes effective, meaningful services and support for students while leading them towards personal leadership development and self-efficacy. We utilize the shared values of; Teaching and Learning; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Student-Centered Approaches; and Developing a Sense of Agency for Students.
We strive to:
- Assist in creating and reflecting on meaningful experiences
- Provide direction, context, and perspective
- Challenge and support the individual, community, and society
- Educate and coach through a self-determined journey
- Empower through goal setting, adequate resourcing, and accountability
- Guide through systems of inequity while being aware of personal identities and the way those identities impact relationships with students and the institution
- Help navigate the spectrum of individual, local, and global issues with courage and compassion
