In "Oceans Divided, Hearts Intertwined," Artists Allison Tran and Wen-Li Chen reflect upon family, heritage, memories and identity. Heritage is a profound part of who we are, shaping our identities and connections to our families. For some, this bond is immediate and strong, while for others, it may be more distant or complex. Each person's heritage is unique, reflecting individual choices in how they express and connect with their background.

Allison Tran has a passion for storytelling and conveys personal narratives about her Asian heritage, memory, family and identity through water color.

Wen-Li Chen explores and examines the meanings of being a woman in between different generations, families, and nations with family archival materials, including photographs, interviews, along with reflections. In her work, she attempts to reveal some complexity of being a Taiwanese indigenous woman living in different sociocultural environments without knowing the mother tongue, but deeply feeling connected with their pride and culture rooted and influenced by their grandparents during growing up.
Join us for a reception on April 3 from 6-8 PM in the Commuter Lounge (first floor of Coffman Memorial Union, outside of the Coffman Art Gallery / Gopher Concessions). Check out the exhibit, meet the artists, and enjoy making art together. In partnership with Artists Collected.
