Description

Student Unions & Activities (SUA) Student Events and Entertainment intends to further the cultural, educational, social, entertainment, and recreational needs of the students and campus community through providing campus-wide programs. The SUA Student Events and Entertainment shall be responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing a diverse event schedule, including annual events such as Homecoming and Spring Jam . SUA Student Events and Entertainment intends to develop program planning skills, leadership experience, and interpersonal development for participating students.

Requirements

  • Current University of Minnesota student meeting Student Employment Eligibility
  • Must plan to maintain student eligibility through this Spring term and through Fall & Spring terms of next year
  • Must be able to work 15-20 hours a week during the academic year and 30 hours a week during the summer
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and leadership skills including the ability to understand, set, and achieve goals, work independently and in a committee, and demonstrated ability to think critically and solve problems independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Google Applications Suite
  • Ability to receive and delegate tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work in a team-focused atmosphere
  • Prior event programming and/or event coordination experience
  • At least one year of past involvement with Student Events and Entertainment or Student Unions and Activities
  • Completed at least two semesters of coursework at the university/college level
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.

Student Program Coordinators have some Mandatory Time Commitments*

Ongoing (Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021)

  • Bi-weekly Student Events and Entertainment meetings (facilitated by Coordinators)
  • Weekly advisor, team, and departmental meetings as assigned
  • Work 15-20 hours per week in the Student Activities office during business hours. Work hours to be determined in collaboration with position supervisor.
  • Regularly attend SUA Student Events and Entertainment events

Spring 2020 Semester

  • Spring Orientations: Saturday, January 25 and Saturday, February 1
  • February– May: shadowing current Program Coordinators as schedule allows, researching and brainstorming event ideas, planning Homecoming events
  • Spring Jam™ 2020 –April 17-18: assisting with the execution of Spring Jam™ events
  • May 1: Deadline for confirming Homecoming week schedule

Summer 2020

  • Weekly check-ins with advisor and team
  • Work up to 30 hours per week in the Student Activities office during business hours. Work hours to be determined in collaboration with position supervisor.

Welcome Week 2020

  • Student Events and Entertainment Events Showcase: Friday, September 4, 2020, approximately 6:00p - 1:00a

Homecoming 2020 – September 19-October 5

  • Execution of assigned Homecoming events. In the case that a class needs to be missed, absence letters can be provided. Roughly an additional 20 hours anticipated.

Spring Jam™ 2021 – April 23-24, 2021 (Tentative)

  • Preparation and execution of Spring Jam™ event in Lot 37

Restrictions

  1. You must be able to work for the Full year.
  2. You must be able to work 15-20 hours per week.
  3. You must be able to work 4 shifts per week.
