The Student Unions & Activities (SUA) Student Events and Entertainment intends to further the cultural, educational, social, entertainment, and recreational needs of the students and campus community through providing campus-wide programs. The SUA Student Events and Entertainment shall be responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing a diverse event schedule, including annual events such as Homecoming and Spring Jam ™. SUA Student Events and Entertainment intends to develop program planning skills, leadership experience, and interpersonal development for participating students
Event Planners have team-wide and committee specific responsibilities.
Team-Wide Responsibilities
- Research ongoing events happening on campus, in local communities, and at other institutions to discover trends relevant to the student body, inform programming decisions, and create awareness of competing programs
- Planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation all events planned by committee
- Maintaining committee budget in cooperation with Program Advisor while forecasting expenditures for future events
- Managing, motivating, delegating, and leading Street Team event volunteers at events
- Managing committee email account
- Maintaining regular and consistent communication with committee members, Student Unions and Activities Advisor, and marketing and facilities representatives while replying to requests/questions in a timely manner.
- Seeking partnerships with other university departments, student groups, and outside agencies on programs when applicable
- Communicating and negotiating with performers/agents, artists, managers, vendors, and student groups
- Promoting and positively representing Student Unions and Activities and the Student Events and Entertainment and its committees across campus
- Keeping organized files, accurate records, and thorough evaluations on events to guide the work of future Event Planners
- Assist with the Student Events and Entertainment Showcase, Homecoming, and Spring Jam™ events
Committee Specific Responsibilities
Arts and Culture
- Planning 13 exhibitions and matching receptions at the Coffman Art Galleries and the Larson Art Gallery which includes “call for artists”
- Plan a variety of engaging art workshops and or craft activities
- Planning, organizing, and implementing annual marquee events such as Art of Fall, Winter and Spring
- Evaluating and replacing building photographs and art pieces in the St. Paul Student Center and Coffman Memorial Union annually
- Collaborate with the Board of Governors and SUA staff to coordinate any special additions to facilities’ art collections and displays outside of the yearly budget

Students participate in experiences outside the classroom which allow them to develop and demonstrate life skills. These skills and characteristics for success and citizenship are learned and refined during their college years and beyond. The Office for Student Affairs has developed seven Student Development Outcomes that the Student Unions & Activities has incorporated into the student leadership positions in the Unions.
