A native of Minnesota with family roots in West Africa, Dr. Abiola Abu-Bakr is an Advanced Practice Public Health Nurse and Doula with a passion for both her local and global community. A firm believer that everyone should be equipped with the knowledge and resources to live a healthy life- Dr. Abu-Bakr obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, a Master's of Public Health, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Public Health to ensure her ability to enact change and access to tables where decisions that impact an individual's ability to obtain such knowledge are decided and funded. In her career thus far, Dr. Abu-Bakr has worked for a foreign government's ministry of health to support emergency preparedness and mental health work, co-developed a doula training program for African American men and fathers in Minnesota, served appointments to state-wide and county-wide councils on health equity in Minnesota, and continues to work alongside nursing, medical research, and social service organizations to provide free health screenings to uninsured and underserved communities in her home state of Minnesota.
