Lost in the Internet

March 22 - May 7; Reception: Wednesday, March 22, 5-7 PM Coffman Memorial Union, Coffman Art Gallery

Co-hosted by YOUmatter and Student Events and Entertainment, come celebrate "Lost in the Internet" at the opening reception on Wednesday, March 22 from 5-7 PM. There will be food, a journaling & sketching exercise, and a collaborative talk. Casey Grengs will discuss their practice of art making, and YOUmatter will discuss mental health resources at the University of Minnesota.

Casey Grengs is a painter and teaching artist based in the occupied Očeti Šakówin and Wahpekute land, now known as Minneapolis, MN. Their artwork is currently focused on exploring reflections, viewership, and domestic space in the high-tech, digital age through figurative painting as a femme nonbinary person.

Grengs is fascinated by the politics of privacy, connectedness, surveillance and the spreading of information that surrounds internet culture. During the Covid-19 pandemic, people around the globe were forced into quarantine by relying only on networking technology to stay connected to the outside world. This moment in time allowed them to reflect on their relationship and roles they occupy as a user of these machines to the direct effects they have on their body and mental health. Come explore the experience of navigating technology and its effect through this exhibit.

Planned by Student Events and Entertainment.
