Start the year off with a bang at the legendary Weisman Art Museum listening to live music from local artists Koo Koo Kanga Roo and Hippo Campus along with screen printing from Bohemian Press and the beautiful art of the WAM.

Koo Koo Kanga Roo:

The relationship between Bryan Atchison (Professional Choreographed Dancer and Gummi Worm Eater) and Neil Olstad (Expert Hip Shaker and Birthday Cake Maker) has birthed the local hyper-active dance pop phenomenon that is Koo Koo Kanga Roo. With the carefree simplicity of your kindergarten days, a Koo Koo Kanga Roo party is a dance extravaganza providing a live show unlike anything you have ever experienced! The undeniable urge to move your body will lead you to the dance floor as you hear their catchy pop melodies and infectious dance beats. They’ve been mixing beats together since 2007, but their most recent album Whoopty Whoop include a song completely devoted to the fashion craze that has taken over the UofM campus, soon to be the world, titled “Fanny Pack.”

It just got real.

Hippo Campus:

A crowd favorite and familiar face on the UofM campus, Hippo Campus has made quite the stride for being a fairly fresh face on the local music scene. The UofM got to know them through their performances at the Whole opening for acts like John Mark Nelson and their finalist status in the Spring Jam 2014 Battle of the Bands. However, Hippo Campus’ clean guitar tone and jive inducing beats have spread far past our humble campus to grab the attention of local music lovers all over the Twin Cities. They’ve received an impressive write up this year from the Local Current Blog and have had a busy summer being a part of impressive line ups at Cinema and Civics as well as the Bastille Day Block Party. Keep your eye out for their new album The Halocline which is currently in the works.
