Some artists need big marketing dollars to make it big. Others only need an album and a website. Chicago-based Empires is one of the latter. Within one year of introducing their gritty garage rock sound to the world and posting their first full-length Howl online, it had over 60,000 downloads. Since then, they released their newest album Garage Hymns this summer and hit the road to tour and play at renowned festivals like Lollapalooza and SXSW.
Cosmonaught was conceived in a Minneapolis basement. They take the stage donning LCD lights and blare their alt-rock sound that blends the likes of Manchester Orchestra, The Almost and Blink-182. Cosmonaught also recently released their newest EP All it Fades, Nothing Lasts by successfully funding the project through Kickstarter.
Rootsy University of Minnesota rockers Blue Ruin from south Minneapolis formed last year when they realized their shared love of Bruce Springsteen and The Clash. It wasn’t long before their self-titled first album was produced and they had built a rapport within the local music scene.
