Description

Student Unions & Activities (SUA) Student Events and Entertainment intends to further the cultural, educational, social, entertainment, and recreational needs of the students and campus community through providing both in-person and virtual campus-wide programs. The SUA Student Events and Entertainment shall be responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing a diverse event schedule, including annual events such as Homecoming and Spring Jam . SUA Student Events and Entertainment intends to develop program planning skills, leadership experience, and interpersonal development for participating students.

Requirements

  • Current University of Minnesota student meeting Student Employment Eligibility while holding position
  • Able to be scheduled 15-20 hours a week during the academic year and up to 30 hours a week during the summer
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and leadership skills including the ability to understand, set, and achieve goals, work independently and in a committee
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and solve problems independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Google Applications Suite
  • Ability to receive and delegate tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work in a team-focused atmosphere
  • Prior event programming and/or event coordination experience
  • At least one year of past involvement with Student Events and Entertainment or Student Unions and Activities
  • Completed at least two semesters of coursework at the university/college level
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.

Notes for This Posting

To be considered, applicants must be eligible and available for student employment from May , 2021 through Fall, 2021. Applicants with expected eligibility and availability to continue through Spring Semester, 2022 are preferred.

Standard business hours are 8:30a-5:00p. Virtual and in-person event times vary.

Student Program Coordinators have some mandatory time commitments (all dates subject to change)

Ongoing (Fall 2021, Spring 2022)

  • Bi-weekly Student Events and Entertainment meetings (facilitated by Coordinators)
  • Weekly advisor, team, and departmental meetings as assigned
  • Work 15-20 hours per week, worked over three to four days, in the Student Activities office during business hours. Work hours to be determined in collaboration with position supervisor.
  • Regularly attend SUA Student Events and Entertainment events

Summer 2021

  • Check-ins with advisor and team
  • Work up to 30 hours per week during business hours. Work hours to be determined in collaboration with position supervisor.
  • Work will be performed remotely until approximately August 2; we anticipate the Student Activities Office (126 Coffman Memorial Union) will return to on-site operations at this time.

Welcome Week 2020

  • Student Events and Entertainment Events Showcase:

Fall Semester 2021

  • Work up to 20 hours per week.

Homecoming 2021

Execution of assigned Homecoming events, additional hours anticipated.

Restrictions

  1. You must be able to work for the Fall, Summer.
  2. You must be able to work 3 shifts per week.
