The HRD (Human Resource Development) Assistant* provides leadership and consultation on the Student Unions & Activities (SUA) central training and development function. This position is responsible for working with the position supervisor to provide resources and opportunities for the development of student employees in all areas of the unions which include: Administration, Facilities, Finance, Marketing, Retail, and Student Activities.

*This position may satisfy the HRD internship requirement, if applicable.

  • Current UMN-TC degree seeking student. See student employment eligibility
  • At least two semesters coursework at university/college level
  • Excellent time management and communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to perform in sensitive and confidential situations
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative on tasks with minimal direction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with or strong knowledge of Student Unions & Activities at the University of Minnesota
  • Majoring in Human Resources Development or related Major or strong interest in Human Resources
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
  • Available to work an average of 10-15 hours per week, during standard business hours

Notes for This Posting

The Human Resources Development (HRD) Assistant should be available to work 10-15 hours a week during office hours (Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm). The minimum shift length is one hour.

Applicant must be eligible and available to work in the fall. However, students have the option of starting in the summer.

Student Unions & Activities requires student staff registration. For positions working during the summer, that means:

  • Fully registered at UM for both Fall 2022 and Spring 2023
  • And/or fully registered at UM for Summer 2022

If you're not registered for Fall Semester and are not registered for Summer, we cannot consider your application.

The HRD Assistant will be based in Student Unions & Activities Administrative Offices on the fifth floor of Coffman Memorial Union. A hybrid schedule of both on campus and remote work is possible.

Undergraduates with sophomore standing or above are preferred.
