Requirements

  • Current University of Minnesota student meeting Student Employment Eligibility while holding position
  • Able to be scheduled 15-20 hours a week during the academic year and up to 30 hours a week during the summer
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and leadership skills including the ability to understand, set, and achieve goals, work independently and in a committee
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and solve problems independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Google Applications Suite
  • Ability to receive and delegate tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work in a team-focused atmosphere
  • Prior event programming and/or event coordination experience
  • At least one year of past involvement with Student Events and Entertainment or Student Unions and Activities
  • Completed at least two semesters of coursework at the university/college level
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.

Essential Functions:

Student Unions & Activities (SUA) Student Events and Entertainment intends to further the cultural, educational, social, entertainment, and recreational needs of the students and campus community through providing both in-person and virtual campus-wide programs. The SUA Student Events and Entertainment shall be responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing a diverse event schedule, including annual events such as Homecoming and Spring Jam . SUA Student Events and Entertainment intends to develop program planning skills, leadership experience, and interpersonal development for participating students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete monthly tracking and reporting, including but not limited to supply inventory, vendor & performance information, sustainability initiatives, and event attendance
  • Provide feedback on Homecoming marketing assets with Student Unions & Activities Marketing department
  • Research events and best practices happening on campus, in local communities, and at other institutions to inform programming decision made by SUA Student Events and Entertainment committees
  • Help promote and represent SUA Student Events and Entertainment to University constituents
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and executing Student Events and Entertainment Showcase and, Homecoming components as assigned, with the option of continuing to assist with planning, implementing, and executing of Spring Jam™
  • Oversee SUA Student Events and Entertainment general budget, in cooperation with Program Director and Program Advisors, including expenses and revenues received, and forecasting expenditures for assigned events.
  • Coordinate event details and maintain positive mutually beneficial working relationships with University departments and external vendors and outside constituents such as Landcare, University of Minnesota Police, University of Minnesota Alumni Association, Gopher Sports, Parking & Transportation, and others.
  • Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and training of the Student Events and Entertainment Event Planners
  • Summer projects as assigned

Other Duties May Include:

  • Serve as a representative of Student Events and Entertainment to the Board of Governors.
  • Assist in the execution of Student Events and Entertainment all-committee retreats
  • Serve as a representative on the Student Activities Grants Committee.
  • Manage overall Student Events and Entertainment master calendar of events.
  • Manage Homecoming Royalty candidate selection process, court appearances, and communications in conjunction with Royalty timeline.
  • Manage, track, and recruit student group and departmental partnerships
  • Recruit and manage the SUA Street Team and Homecoming volunteers
  • Facilitate bi-weekly Student Events and Entertainment team meetings during the academic year
  • Other duties as assigned
