About this Group

Group Description
HLBA is dedicated to the dual purposes of 1) providing students with practical career guidance in the field of health law, and 2) fostering awareness, critical thought, and debate about topics in bioethics. HLBA seeks to address the interrelation of these goals whenever possible, but recognizes the need for some events to consider one goal to the exclusion of the other. The philosophy behind the dual purpose approach is that it will promote the development of well-rounded lawyers. HLBA embraces interdisciplinary discourse and will seek the participation of, and partnerships with, students and organizations from other schools at the University of Minnesota.
Group's principal activities, events, or programs:
Speakers, debates, lectures, career panels and information sessions, and social activities.
How this group's activities benefit the University community:
We are an interdisciplinary group that aims to foster awareness and educate about the intersection of health law and bioethics. We strive to have informative and interesting events open to the whole law school community. We attempt to provide our members with information and tools that will be useful in career planning.
How this group fits into its categories:
We fit into the academic and educational category because we examine and promote critical discussion on various legal, bioethical, and social issues. However, we maintain a non-partisan stance; rather, we want to inform all sides of the debate.
How to get involved with this group:
For more information on our group or to join our mailing list, please contact our president at We do not hold regular meetings, but we do send out announcements about our own events, as well as events that we think will be of interest to our membership.
