About this Group

Group Description
We are the University chapter of the world's largest human rights organization. We focus on: prisoners of conscience, abolishing the death penalty, race and gender-based discrimination, ending torture, and other causes. We are a non-partisan group working for the betterment of all people around the world.
Group's principal activities, events, or programs:
We promote awareness, education, and action for various global human rights issues. We work on everything from freeing individual prisoners of conscience to larger social issues. We are involved in local activism on campus and in Minneapolis as well as social movements in the U.S. and abroad dealing with human rights.
How this group's activities benefit the University community:
They provide an opportunity for people to learn about more about human rights issues and to be involved with helping to curb human rights abuses domestically and internationally.
How this group fits into its categories:
We take on complex and varied issues that deal with cultures all around the world, and as a result we learn more about those cultures and their history. While Amnesty International is a non-partisan organization, the bulk of our work is on political and social issues, and involves activism and communication with politicians and public officials.
How to get involved with this group:
Please email us at to be added to our email list and receive meeting reminders and event notifications. Meetings occur weekly during fall and spring semesters, and are usually held in Coffman Union.
