Eligibility

The awards are open to all currently registered Campus Life Programs and Registered Student Organizations.

Nominations and Application Criteria

  • Unless otherwise noted, only those activities and events during calendar year 2016 will be considered.
  • Nominations will be accepted from members and non-members of groups.
  • Groups may be nominated for more than one award.
  • Applications should be written as to be understood by individuals with no prior knowledge of the student group, as awards are solely determined by the information provided in the application.
  • Essay question answers should be concise, please keep responses to 250 words.
  • A successful response to the essay questions will utilize Student Development Outcomes in its structure.
  • Nominations for 2016 awards are not yet open, and a deadline has not been set. Stay tuned for more information coming this fall.

Judging

The judging committee will consist of University of Minnesota faculty, staff, and students. Please note, Student Activities full time staff will not serve on the judging committee. The judging committee reserves the right to grant more than one award in each category.

Awards

Outstanding Program or Event

This award recognizes student groups that have best demonstrated their efforts in planning and executing a program and/or event. The program/event should be organized by a single group.

Judging Criteria for Outstanding Program or Event

Outstanding Co-Sponsored Program or Event

This award recognizes student groups that have best demonstrated their collaborative efforts in planning and executing a program and/or event with another registered student group.

Outstanding Service or Philanthropic Project

This award recognizes student groups that have best demonstrated their efforts in planning and executing a successful service/philanthropic project.

Outstanding Graduate or Professional Student Group of the Year

This award recognizes a student group who predominantly serves graduate or professional students and has demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their group. Student group must have been established for more than 3 years.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student Group of the Year

This award recognizes a student group who predominantly serves undergraduate students and has demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their group. Student group must be established for more than 3 years.

Judging Criteria for Outstanding Undergraduate Student Group of the Year

Innovation Award

This award recognizes student groups that have displayed innovation and/or fostered creativity through their program/events, in relation to recruitment, marketing, outreach to campus community, use of resources, officer training, event planning, and/or sustainability.

Rookie Student Group of the Year

This award recognizes newer student groups (less than 3 years since inception) who have demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their group.

Outstanding Student Group Advisor

Co-sponsored with the Minnesota Student Association (MSA) and the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA), this award recognizes an outstanding advisor of a student group who has gone above and beyond to help their group accomplish its mission and goals. Nominees must be advisors for student groups currently registered with Student Unions & Activities (advisor does not need to be a University of Minnesota employee to be eligible).

Excellence in Inclusion

In partnership with the Student Unions & Activities Diversity & Inclusion Committee, this award recognizes a registered student group who has demonstrated significant commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice excellence throughout the year.

People's Choice Award

This award is selected by popular vote by faculty, staff, and students at the University of Minnesota. The nominees will be selected from the top 5 groups in the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Group of the Year and Outstanding Graduate or Professional Student Group of the Year categories.
