The current state of our natural environment has been severed and disturbed since early human settlements. Artists Deborah Foutch, Annie Hejny, and Steven McLoon come together to cherish nature in their works, as well as engage the viewer in deeper conversations about what is happening beyond the surface of our environment.
Deborah Foutch and Annie Hejny's series of work focus on the history and impact of St. Anthony Falls since European developments in the 19th Century.
Deborah Foutch, a fiber / mixed media artist, explores the systems that preserve the land and water in her layered wall pieces.
Annie Hejny, an abstract painter, draws inspiration from the movement of water, light, and particulate matter in the Mississippi River by using collected river water and sediment in her paintings.
Steven McLoon is a professor at the University of Minnesota who does woodworking. McLoon appreciates the characteristics of natural wood and celebrates those aspects in his work.
