Description

Part of the Twin Cities hip-hop collective Doomtree, rapper, singer, poet and songwriter, Dessa divides her time between singing and rapping, often landing on a spoken-word splitting of the difference. Dessa, born and raised in Minneapolis after her parents met at a Duluth music store, was valedictorian of her high school, and later graduated from the University of Minnesota with honors before she could legally drink.

Since founding and joining Doomtree, Dessa's newest album, Parts of Speech, has been praised by critics as the high point of the multi-talented artist’s career.  Containing both variety and cohesiveness, her album can boom out of a car window on a sunny summer’s day, or serve as the soundtrack to a November night in, and demonstrates the crossover power of the rising star’s burgeoning arsenal.
