John Mark Nelson’s name might sound familiar to you for many reasons, maybe you've heard his music played on the Current and raved about by their DJs and music critics, you may have heard him on the first track of Minnesota Beatle Project Volume 4 covering “A Day in the Life”, maybe you’ve heard him live at Bastille Day Block Party or on Lake Harriet or Lake Minnetonka this summer, or maybe you graduated high school with the kid, after all he’s only 19. After only a few years on the music scene and the release of two albums, Waiting and Waiting and Still Here, John Mark is a well-known folk favorite across all demographics of local music lovers. Music always being a part of his life and home, John Mark’s Bon Iver like sound young in life giving it a unique whimsical sound infused with simplistically deep lyrics. Who knows if it’s his lyrics that stick in your head for days, his toe-tappin’ folk tunes or his impressive beard that would make any young hipster boy envious, but the Twin Cities are crazy about John Mark Nelson and are excited for much more to come.
Local youngsters Hippo Campus are a four-piece band from “lake-infested lands” that, along with getting together to create hoedown tunes, lists their interests as goat herding, Milano cookies, Wu Lyf, dried mango, babes and backflips. What could possibly go wrong?
