- Making Music: Peter Pisano (Peter Wolf Crier)

Peter Pisano started Peter Wolf Crier with drummer Brian Moen on a lark. Two successful albums later, including 2011’s “Garden of Arms,” Peter Wolf Crier has earned a prominent spot among good company on the Jagjaguwar record label, where labelmates include Bon Iver, Dinosaur Jr., and Sharon Van Etten. Pisano will discuss his musical influences, the distinctions between his two PWC releases, and inspiration for their uniquely melancholic and eerie sound.

- Shabazz Palaces

Seattle-native hip-hop artist Ishmael Butler has gone by many names. In the early ‘90s, he was Butterfly in the Grammy award-winning rap group Digable Planets. Now, under the guise of Palaceer Lazaro, he has teamed up with instrumentalist Tendai Maraire to form the experimental hip-hop collective Shabazz Palaces.
Releasing two EPs simultaneously in 2009, Of Light and a self-titled venture, Shabazz Palaces were met with rave reviews and a cult following. Shabazz Palaces’ first full-length, entitled Black Up, proves their experimental panache can still win the hearts of listeners as well as reviewers.

- Exploration of Depth

The works of Camdi Phan and Julia Helen Rice have extraordinary depth. Each layer of oil paint in Camdi Phan's works further explore her memories of China and beautiful landscapes. Whereas Julia Rice's works are less representative she seeks to create visual excitement and tension through exploring contrasting themes such as light/dark, figuration/abstraction and destruction/creation. Together these paintings take us on a journey through layers of paint to unknown worlds.

- Mimesis

In the exhibition "Mimesis" the works of art imitate concepts and figures. Jamie Adams explores how people are bombarded with visual information intended for public consumption, yet the information is often deeply personal, private, or tragic. Bly and Rowan Pope's drawings are so realistic that one would believe they are looking at a photograph. Together, Adam's work and the Pope brothers' work complement each other well, with the intense subject matter and similar styles.

- Urban Earth

Meghan Karschina, Jeramy Jensen, and Kari Maxwell all explore the wonders of Earth and nature with their works. Karschina incorporates form and imagery that seeks to find a balance between the human and natural world by depicting human interactions with nature on everyday objects. Jensen pursues horizons cracked in fractal breaks of a tree line or other organic matter with a certain process and style of painting, involving lines spun upon planes of color. Maxwell observes nature and seeks to represent its detail. These three artists are surely woven together by their ties to the natural element of Earth.
