Activist and Scholar: Brittany Lewis

Brittany Lewis is a PhD candidate in the Women, Gender and Sexuality studies department at the U of M.  Brittany studies the resistant itineraries of Black female activists in North Minneapolis.  As an activist-scholar she seeks to unmask the material and ideological affects of neoliberal urbanism by articulating the ways that the city and states investments in capital supersede any and all desire to preserve the Black community. She is also interested in the ways that media framing is used as a tool to pathologize Black life and culture. She will discuss her work and how it relates to the theme of the film.
